การลงทุนโดยตรงในต่างประเทศ (Thai Direct Investment Abroad: TDI) เป็นธุรกรรมการลงทุนที่ผู้ลงทุนที่มีถิ่นฐานในประเทศไทยมีต่อธุรกิจที่มีถิ่นฐานในต่างประเทศ ประกอบ ด้วยเงินลงทุนในทุนเรือนหุ้น (Equity Capital) ซึ่งหมายถึงการลงทุนด้วยการถือหุ้นที่มีสิทธิ์ร่วมในการบริหารกิจการตั้งแต่ร้อยละ10 ขึ้นไป การกู้ยืมระหว่างบริษัทในเครือ กำไรที่นำกลับมาลงทุน ตราสารหนี้และสินเชื่อการค้าที่เป็นธุรกรรมระหว่างบริษัทในเครือด้วยกัน
